Salt Rock is suffering from constant power outages – here’s why

Power outages have become commonplace in Salt Rock over the last few months.  Residents in the area has expressed concern and disgust with the status quo.

The North Coast Courier reported this week that KDM is trying to resolve the issue.

It all started when KDM installed a new substation in 2016.  All was well for around 18 months according to DA Ward Councillor Malcolm Hubner.  He told the Courier: “The problems started about six months ago, and electricians had been coming out to fix the issue but it would just reoccur.”

Last week around 20 technicians spent the day at the substation trying to fine tune the device, which is regularly tripping due to protection mechanisms built into the device.  This device was not made for the Ballito weather, which loves to pound its residents with gale force winds and the occasional heavy rains.  (Mind you, we even had hail a month or two ago).

According to KDM, the substation was sourced from India and was simply not designed to withstand our weather conditions.  KDM has assured residents that they are working on the issue and that it will be resolved in due course.

In the meantime though, keep those candles handy and turn a dire situation into a romantic one.
