Local drives down 50m embankment and survives
Early yesterday evening IPSS Medical Rescue responded to a call where a vehicle had reportedly gone down a 50m embankment. IPSS ambulance and rescue personnel responded to the in incident in Mandeni.
Upon arrival, rescue personnel located a moderately injured man, who had become severely entrapped in the wreckage.
The driver’s head was pinned between the drivers door and the roof of the vehicle, while his hand was caught between the door and the ground.
The patient was assessed and stabilised by IPSS Medical Rescues Advanced Life Support Paramedic while rescue teams placed high pressure lifting bags between the door and the frame of the vehicle.
Hydraulic rams were used in conjunction with the high pressure pneumatic system, to meticulously free the entrapped man.
The injured man was transported to a near by hospital for further care.
