The aroma of lovely rich coffee wafted through Hirsch Ballito recently, when, in conjunction with local Roastery Beanstruk, they hosted a coffee lovers morning where talk was all about how to produce the very best cup of coffee!
Michelle Hendrikz from Beanstruk gave a thorough run down on the finer points of coffee, including the importance of knowing the difference between Arabica and Robusta coffee. “Arabica is grown at a high altitude and is far superior to Robusta,” she pointed out. “Different countries produce different varieties of coffee.” She said – Colombia’s coffee, for instance, is rich, whereas coffee produced in Costa Rica is a lot milder. Michelle also explained that it was important to store coffee in an air tight container – and not open in the fridge. Guests were shown a variety of coffee machines on the market, with demonstrations on the Miele, Bosch and Caffelux machines.
